News and Important Info

Registration for the 2024 - 2025 season is closed.

IMPORTANT: The requirement to attend at least one WMT meeting was reinstated last year and will be in effect this year as well. This is probably the last warning on this. Going forward, assume the meeting requirement is in effect unless otherwise noted.

Deer Management

Management of deer is done through participation in the TPWD MLDCO management program.  One of the benefits of being an MLDCO is that our deer hunting season is extended through the end of February.  A state-issued hunting license is required, but members do not use the tags issued with their hunting license and must use the state issued MLDCO tags instead.  All hunting is archery only.

Be aware, Hilltop Lakes is NOT a deer lease.  If you are looking to hang that trophy buck on your wall, then you may be happier hunting somewhere else.  Managing the deer population means the primary focus is thinning the excess does from the herd per our biologist's recommendations.  We have made great strides in improving the overall health of the deer herd taking this approach, but, as such, there are very few buck tags issued each season.

Hog Control

Another focus of The WMT is hog control at Hilltop Lakes.  WMT members may hunt and trap hogs year round.  It's a great way to keep your skills honed and help combat the destructive hog problem.  All hunting is archery only.

Trapping of hogs is allowed.  However, snares, leg holds, jaw traps, or dogs are prohibited.
